Comments:1305 - I don't know what I expected out of sociology, but I did not expect what Kevin was like. He did insist that we called him Kevin whenever we sent him an email or if we talked to him in person. He wasn't a bad professor necessarily, but I expected him to be some kind of revolutionary mad lad who would change my entire outlook on life. I ended up hating his class so much that I'd skip at least once a week and on the days I'd show up, I'd bring earbuds and start some Disney+. He put on a show of caring for students but it was obviously fake, and I hated that. And the topics he chose were also frustrating – like, yeah, I get it, it's 2020 and you need to talk about politics and race and religion, but do you really need to see a sociologist's opinion of why doctors desexualize physical exams? It was really frustrating then because all of the pre-med students were taking that as gospel truth but as someone who knows 11 doctors off the top of their head and 5 nurses, I can absolutely guarantee you that the article he assigned us to read was wrong about everything. It felt on the discussion boards that you couldn't have any room for disagreement in any sense, and he tried to make everything into a bigger deal than it was. I remember one time he forced the students to shout the names of genitalia in his class as loud as they could, and it made me supremely uncomfortable. If you're into things like sociology, you might enjoy him, but don't take him if you're trying to fulfill a social science credit. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:SOC 1305 - Kevin is the man, no doubt about it. He is known to his students as Kevin, no formalities. This class is pretty easy, there are 200+ kids in it and it is super fun, he does some outrageous/hilarious things in class. There is plenty of audience participation as well and he sometimes asks students to conduct little skits that are applicable to what is being taught at the moment. He calls on people to share experiences or answer questions so be on your toes and pay attention. Uses PowerPoints for lectures. He puts outlines of notes on Canvas so go print them out and fill them out while he lectures. For homework, he'll have you go online and read articles. Read them because there are clicker quizzes every class. He makes you join a Baylor affiliated group and write two or three papers about them, which are not hard at all, a couple pages of responding to some questions that he has about the group. These papers are related to what Kevin is talking about in class at that point in time. They are usually due a day or two before the test so it is super helpful to do them not only for the grade but also because it will remind you of the material that you've learned, which will be what is on the test. There were three or four tests, all multiple choice and super easy if you pay attention and fill out the notes. I really earned an A- in this class but there is no selection for an A- on here, only an A. I would've gotten an A if my clicker hadn't stopped working. So make sure you've got a working clicker or else there is nothing to be done if your answer doesn't take. Overall, this is a super fun and easy class so take Kevin cause he's straight cash homie. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:1305 - I have never had a teacher like Kevin in my entire life!! He is definitely a genuine person... and his class was totally worth taking and always entertaining and interesting. He is a great lecturer so trust me, you will never be bored in class, he always seemed to have something up his sleeve. The tests weren't bad, a made A's on all of them and his class was the first time I've ever made a 100 on a college exam. Just take good notes during lecture and you should be fine. The quizzes always got me though, they are usually only 4 questions and I always seemed to miss one... just keep up with the readings for those quizzes because I don't think he drops any, and there's no textbook for class, just the readings he posts on Blackboard which can be pretty lengthy (up to 30 pages). You have 4 papers that really aren't that bad... just follow the instructions and listen to what he wants from your paper. You have to buy a clicker for the quizzes and attendance. There were also multiple guest speakers that came to class so there was always something to spice up the class somehow, it was far from monotonous and boring, I never really knew what to expect. But I would definitely recommend taking this class, he is absolutely a great professor bar NONE. He tries to learn everyone's name (and there were almost 300 people in his class) so you can tell he definitely wants to get to know his students. Kevin is awesome. People who weren't even in his class would come just to sit in on one of his lectures, and if you take his class you will see why! - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:SOC 1305 - I was a sociology major going into this class, but he just made me that much more sure about my major. This was my favourite class fall semester; he’s dynamic, energetic and loves his subject, and it’s contagious. The other reviews have covered the bases well. There were visitors in class almost every day that had heard about it and come to see what the buzz was about, for good reason. Kevin is awesome, great at teaching, and loves his students. There were about 200 people in my class, and he knew almost everyone’s name by the end of the semester. There’s a bit of reading every night and short quizzes every day in class, but if you do the reading and pay attention in class, they’re easy. Tests are multiple choice and you’ll definitely have to have a good understanding of what’s talked about in class in order to do well. I didn’t think they were that hard, though. Also, there are three essays throughout the course, but they’re very formulaic. Follow the formula the way he says to and you’re golden. Lastly, a note from my friends in the class who were non-majors: that he helped them understand everything, so if you need a social science credit, try this class. It’s hard not to love it. I wish he taught something other than intro—I’d take his class again in a second. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:1305 - Kevin is an amazing teacher. I actually looked forward to coming to class every day just to see what crazy things he would do. There isn't much work, but I learned the hard way that it is important to read the articles before each class. I did at the beginning of the semester, then forgot one day but still got 2/2 on the quiz, so I decided that I didn't need to read anymore. Unfortunately I stopped getting 2's and got a lot more 1's and 0's. I got A's on both of the tests and a 49/50 on the final, but overall I ended up 1 point short of getting an A. I was pretty upset and I emailed him, but he said he had to stick to the point scale from the syllabus. I was a little frustrated because I had been in class every day and had even helped out with in class drama, but I understand his reasoning. Although my grade didn't turn out how I had hoped, Kevin is the best professor I have had at Baylor so far. He makes class fun, and really wants to get to know his students outside of class. He tried hard to learn our names and by the end of the semester knew almost all 200. The class isn't a blowoff, you will have to work a little, but the articles are interesting so it's really not bad. If you are going to take Sociology, definitely take Kevin! - Grade In Class:B+ |

Comments:Soc 1305 - Kevin is THE BEST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD! If you need a social science, and you don’t take Sociology with Kevin, then you are insane. This is one of my favorite classes. Kevin (AKA Dr. Dougherty but he wants you to call him Kevin) is an awesome prof because 1. He genuinely cares about his students 2. He teaches Sociology in a fun, energetic entertaining way 3. I actually LEARNED. We had about 130 students in our class and he literally knows everybody’s names by the end of the semester! So the format of the class is, 22 quizes (so pretty much a quiz everyday & he drops 2), 3 papers super easy (2 pages in length and there is a fourth one that was optional for replacement), and a non-comprehensive final, so in short…this class is a piece of cake! The quizzes come from the reading of case studies online, which are for the most part pretty short. The great part is the quizzes are 2 questions each and they are usually common sense. During the semester he had us read 2 books (all I did was skim both books and I got 100s on almost all the quizzes.) The 3 papers are simple. Just do exactly what he tells you. Write on the subject, do the correct paper formatting, and don’t screw up grammar—you will be golden! The tests aren’t hard just memorize your notes and use a lot of common sense on the test. I recommend going back over the test when you’re done because that is usually when I noticed that I had made several careless mistakes. The final is the exact same as the first 2 tests so don’t worry. Kevin is just absolutely fantastic; I wish I were back in that class right now. I almost switched my major to Sociology because of him. PLEASE TAKE HIM! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! Easy, fun A :) - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:Soc 3402 - kev claims to "love statistics." worship would probably be the more appropriate verb choice to describe his relationship with statistics. if he could chain himself up to one of the trees outside burleson and refuse to leave until eta squared became the US national PRE measure, he'd do it in a heartbeat and never stop smiling.
that being said, the man is very easy to talk to, helpful, engaging with students, and a very good lecturer. don't bother getting either texts for the class, i only touched them after the first week in order to look in the appendicies for the various tables. he provides all the equations and tables for each test. he clearly explains everything in class you need to know, but you do have to fill in the notes he leaves on blackboard because they are incomplete (thus no need for the texts). his class reminded me of 24 the series, because if you missed a class, he spent the first 10 minutes of the next class going over what he lectured over in the previous class. but he is no jack bauer. he's more positive and smiles more than anyone i've seen on campus, and jack for that matter. kev enjoys talking about his daughters, they seem like pretty sweet kids. he gives out 10 homework assignments graded based on completion only, and gives multiple in-class exercises that mimic what is on the tests. 3 tests, no final, and also a group analysis project based of the 1998 GS survey. it is not that hard at all, and half your grade comes from your group rating your participation in the project. he grades somewhat confusingly on the 2nd and 3rd test, but other than that he is pretty easy in his grading scheme. all in all, an easy and entertaining class at times. the lab is pointless. sorry buster - Grade In Class:A |
