Comments:Genetics - She is harsh at times but pretty fair. Her lectures are very entertaining. She sets her office hours to be different every week, but they tend to be at 8 AM which is rough. I struggled in this class at first but once I started only studying the learning objectives it wasn’t awful. Tests are definitely really hard and they are almost all of the grade.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - moehkne is not easy by any means, but it is probably the first biology class i've enjoyed thus far. She's very direct on what you need to know for the test and doing the textbook problems are great for this class. I think it might've been an addition with quizzes this year, but around 35% of the test actually came from previous quiz questions which was extremely helpful. tests are around 30 questions with multiple choice, drop-downs, and free response for math. Her tests are pretty fair and the questions shouldn't catch you off guard if you studied. She's enjoyable in lecture and makes the class interesting.. Although, we went much more in depth and had more material than Dr.Luna did this sem, if that is something that you dislike. however, overall i would recommend Dr. Moehkne for genetics!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Genetics - I had taken genetics before with Miles and got a D so I retook it with Moehnke and I HIGHLY recommend you take her over Miles. She has switched up her course this year and I like the changes she made. We get weekly open note quizzes which were grade savers since they not only boosted my grade but allowed me to practice problems. So I recommend taking the time to do really well on those quizzes, especially if you're a bad test taker. The only downside is they are on the weekends so your weekend is no longer free. Another negative to this class is the participation grade. While it boosted my grade in order to do that it takes an insane amount of work. You have clicker questions in class that you have to get correct and you have to attend SI/LA/office hours AT LEAST once a week. This killed me mentally this semester because I spent all of my free time on Genetics. Luckily Dr. Moenke is incredibly sweet and wants her students to do well and has actively been trying to make a good grade attainable in her class. This class is so hard but her positivity and passion for the subject help motivate her students to do well. So as someone who has taken both Miles and Moehnke, Miles is less work but harder and Moenke is more work but easier. Personally, I preferred Moehnke but genetics is hard no matter your professor so try your best and you've got this!!!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2306 - She was awesome when I took Genetics. It is not an easy class whatsoever, but she gives you every resource for you to be successful. She gives learning objectives for every exam, and everything on the test will be from there, so you don't waste your time learning unnecessary material. The only grades are exams, so make sure to study hard. I found it helpful to fill out the learning objectives as she goes through the chapter in lecture, so when exam time comes, all you have to do is study them. She was great, take her for genetics!!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:genetics - TAKE HER. in my opinion she is the best option for genetics. Her tests are very straightforward and a great reflection of what she expects you to know. You only have to know the information on her learning objectives and she gives you so many resources to practice and be successful such as book problems, SI, and LAs. So kind and she explains material super well and even will try and dumb it down so we can understand.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - I had Dr. Moehnke for genetics and she is AMAZING. She made the course even more interesting and her lectures were always great. She is a very funny professor and truly cares about her students. She does a VERY good job at explaining the material. Her exams are not easy, but not terrible. I'd say they are very reflective of what you know. The class is made up of 4 exams and a final. Your final can replace your lowest exam score which is nice. She usually finds a way to offer some type of bonus at the end, for us it was a few questions on our final. Overall, I definitely recommend her for genetics! She is such an amazing person and professor.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2306 - I loved her course and her willingness to help students. Keep in mind, your grade in her class is only comprised of test grades so although you can do relatively well on all the tests, getting an A is not easy. You must put in the work. I feel as if taking tests online through lockdown threw me off and as a result, I made many silly mistakes on tests that prevented me from getting an A. I feel like I would not have made these mistakes if the tests were on paper. Work load isn’t bad. Just put all the learning objectives into a doc and copy and paste the answer to the learning objective directly from the textbook. Memorize all that and you should be good for the test. It’s a lot of info to memorize but if you paid attention in class, then its not that bad at all. There were a couple tests where I was crammed for time, started studying two days before the test and still scored well above the average. But that doesn’t work for everyone, you have to know how much information you already know and what you dont. All in all, I loved her course, I attended office hours frequently, and I am looking forward to taking her medical genetics course and being an LA. P.S go to the LA sessions because they only take 30 mins to fill out the a worksheet and she often times used those questions on tests. Lastly, take Moenhke over Miles because her test questions are extremely straight forward, she does not try to trip you up.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2306 - This woman will forever have my heart. She is joyful every day and always makes me laugh in class with funny memes in her slides or stories she brings about her kids. The class has no homework with only 4 exams and a final. Her exams are straightforward and she even helps you out by giving you learning objectives about every chapter that outline everything you need to know. Def recommend if you have the chance  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Genetics - I had her spring of 2020 so half the semester was thrown off by corona but she still did a decent job. She gave us 1 extra credit point to our overall grade just by being present the day before spring break and then during corona gave us 1 more extra credit point if we talked about something nice that we did for someone, so 2 extra points total to our overall grade. But she might not do those things for your class so be careful. I got an A in the class by ONLY reading the book for the topics in the LEARNING OBJECTIVES, memorizing/learning all of the learning objectives and then doing all of the practice problems at the bottom of the learning objectives. I'm not going to lie this class can be pretty time consuming but if you study it for an hour every day and the way I described you should be fine. And I didn't study on Fridays or Saturdays except when I had an exam coming up. I also took this class with 16 hours, so if you have more than that this class will be more difficult. BUT STICK TO THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES, she honestly makes it SO CLEAR what you need to know for this course which is why I rated her helpfulness so high.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIO 2306 - We should get the obvious out of the way. Genetics is a challenging course. Regardless if you take Moehnke or another professor I genuinely believe it comes down to study strategy and how much time you put into studying. One of the best things I think that Moehnke provides that other genetics professors don't is a set of learning objectives that list specifically which concepts you are responsible for on the exam. IF IT IS NOT ON THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. Read the textbook and take good notes. Understand the diagrams in the text too. There are 5 exams (including the final) for this class (each are theoretically worth 20% each but the final can replace your lowest test grade so it can actually be worth 40% of your grade if you do better). If you miss less than 5 clicker days in class then she will bump your letter grade up if you are within 1%. She allowed us to post on a discussion board with a good deed we did during this pandemic for an extra 1% bump to our overall grade. Also, she added 2 points onto one of our test grades for just being in class and not skipping the Friday before spring break let out. Dr. Moehnke cares for her students and she makes learning about genetics really interesting. I thought about dropping out of the class cause I didn't do too hot on my first exam, but I am so glad I stay cause I learned so much and it has honestly been a really fun class to be in. PS. She did great with the transition to online learning so mad props to her. PPS. Genetics is rough but trust me that Dr. Moehnke is the way to go on this one.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Genetics - Although Dr. Moehnke is a nice person and tries to help students, her class is extremely difficult. It definitely is because genetics is a naturally difficult course as there is a ton to cover in one semester, but the way she structures the curriculum makes it unnecessarily hard. Additionally, she is almost never available because of her high position in the Biology department, so if you do not utilize her already limited office hours well, she makes you feel like a "burden" or "inconvenience" since you are wasting her valuable time. I failed her class and am taking Dr. Miles right now, and seriously after nearing the end of the semester and comparing the two courses, Dr. Miles' curriculum is MUCH better. Most people who fail the genetics course and take the other professor will not provide details on the comparisons between the class, so my advice right now is meant to do just that. He does not cram too many chapters into each exam PLUS the wording on his exams are much easier to comprehend than Moehnke's exams. As someone who - literally - has sat in the classes of both, I can say that Miles' curriculum is easier to handle, exam wording is easier to understand, plus he gives extra credit in the form of an added 1% to your overall grade if you get above a 70% on all clicker questions. Additionally, he gives weekly quizzes (which you will find helps so much more than Moehnke who doesn't have ANY added grades except 4 exams and the cumulative final) and a few added points on the final exam itself if you complete an easy project. This is not a comment to scare anyone who is scanning through Moehnke's evaluations right now, but it is intended to inform you of the possibilities of taking another professor, Dr. Miles, who is just as sweet and charming AND whose class you will do better in... seriously. Plus he is so easy to get to know and his class is just better overall in my opinion. Heed my warnings if you take Moehnke!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Genetics - After taking Miles and not passing the class, I thought it was the end of my medical school pursuit. Though I tried it again, but this time with Dr. Moehnke, and let me tell you.. it was the best decision! She is so wonderful and sweet! By a landslide, she is better than Miles! With Moehnke, you get a very fine-tuned objective list and if you read the parts of the book that you find the objectives in, you're golden! Don't get me wrong, this class was so hard, but it wasn't Moehnke, it was the course itself. You really need to grind if you want a good grade because the only things that go towards your grade are 5 test grades. TAKE HER OVER MILES! She is way better at teaching the course, and you actually learn in class!  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2019-12-17

Comments:Genetics - Dr. Meohnke is very sweet and honest, but I've been done with this course for two weeks now and I still wake up from stress nightmares related to this class. If you have to take genetics and decide on Dr. M here is some advise: complete the learning objectives (they are worksheets that she hands out and tests off of), find a group of three or four serious students to talk about them after you finish, and do the practice problems at least three times through to make sure you know them frontwards and backwards, and then talk about those with other students as well. SI is probably a good idea too, but I'll be honest this class is going to take up a ton of your time if you really want the A. Even then its going to be pretty difficult because you'll probably have to dedicate like two hours every single day to studying this material, then double that during test weeks. Her tests are fair, but hard. And the only grades she takes are test grades. There is nothing to help support you, you just have to do really really well on all your tests. Also, if you value your sanity, emotions, and time do NOT put in any extra work than is absolutely necessary outside the learning objectives/problems. If the extra credit project takes more than an hour of your time it is NOT worth it.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2306 - Dr. Moehnke is very passionate about genetics and in my opinion, that made the class fun. There is a lot of information in this class so you have to study, and you might struggle if you don't have a very good memory for details. Make sure you do the learning objectives for every chapter and go to SI when you can. Compile all of your learning objectives to one document to study them, and make sure you thoroughly know all of the processes. It sounds like an intimidating class, but if you put the work in, you should be good!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306/ Genetics - Moenke's genetics class is significantly harder than any other bio classes I have taken, but I enjoy learning the content. Her tests are EXTREMELY in depth, so you have to prepare way far in advance. Do the learning objectives before class so you can follow the lecture, and truly memorize the end of the chapter questions because her test questions are always very similar. Stay ahead of the game and read throughout the units!!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:BIO1305H - Liked Moehnke MUCH more than I liked Abel. I don't see the fakeness that most reviews are referring to, but did not take the time to really get to know her (but she seems pretty nice and energetic in class!) Tests were pretty straight-forward off the learning objectives  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Bio 2306/2106 - I came into this class hesitantly, but ended up really enjoying Dr. Moehnke and the class topics. Her tests are definitely not easy, but they're far from hard. I got As on the first three tests and a B on the fourth and final exam. She gives you a "learning objective" for each chapter, which clearly lays out everything you need to know for that chapter (Seriously only use the learning objective!! I never read complete chapters, I just jumped around in the textbook based on the objectives. Also, do every practice problem at least once..twice if you have time). You do not need to go to class every day because she doesn't mention anything that you wouldn't be able to find on the learning objective. The class period is just used to expand on harder topics. I only went to three/four office hours in total with challenging practice problem and I found her to be helpful (be warned she is direct and a bit intimidating so take a fellow genetics friend with you). Overall, this class will help you gauge how ready you are for future, more intense science courses.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - Moenhke is one most passive aggressive teachers i've ever had, but she is always friendly and willing to help you! well at least for her 15 minute time slots...Her tests are very detail orientated and I got the same grade on every test (83). Her final was so unreasonably hard even people who got A's on every test got C's. She's very passionate about the subject and honestly genetics is kinda interesting, but the only grades in her class are tests, but she does drop one so that's nice. Take Duhrkof if you can.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2017-03-29

Comments:2306 - I'm not sure if Dr. Moehnke has improved since these reviews have been written, but her class was definitely not as hard as these reviews make it sound. There are 4 tests and the final, but if you score higher on the final she lets it replace your lowest test grade. I thought her tests were definitely doable. Use the PowerPoint as an outline and study what the book says about the points covered. Main Advice: DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS!!! Overall, I liked Dr. Moehnke and did not think her class was unreasonable at all.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-12-16

Comments:2306 - Dr. Moehnke was a fine professor. Her class is hard because it is three exams and a final, and that comprises your grade (she drops one of the first four exams). Her tests are pretty hard. There's a lot of material to know thoroughly. She DOES however take attendance into consideration, and will bump your grade up to one percentage point higher if you deserve it. Overall hard class, friendly, enthusiastic professor, and it's mildly interesting if you aren't a big fan of genetics.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Genetics - I literally made an account to warn everyone how horrible of a teacher this woman is. At the start of the semester, she seems like a nice person and like she's willing to help. She's not. Her tests (the only grades in the class) are extremely detail oriented, so ignore whatever she's lecturing on the powerpoints and spend hours on the chapters in the book chapters until you know every tiniest detail backwards and sideways. You can only view your tests in rooms she rents out in an attempt to be as non-personal as possible. This class almost made me consider switching majors. Judging from what I've heard about Duhrkoff, Baylor needs some new Genetics professors or there will be more reviews like this one.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:2303 - Not impressed, life in shambles, miserable. Help.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2015-10-28

Comments:Genetics - She lectures very well but the tests are randomized from the book test bank making them apply more to the reading and less to the lectures. I'd say overall her test are really difficult and she offers no curve so making an A on a test IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2015-04-30

Comments:2306 - Moehnke is one of the worst professors I have had at Baylor. She flies through power points; I could never get all the notes taken. She covers an average of a chapter a class. That is not enough time for a genetics chapter. She says to only worry about info on the power points, however, that is not true. You will be tested over material in the book that was not covered in the power points. She acts as if she really cares for her students, but I felt as though she was being fake. Her homework load is not bad. You have about 1 assignment per class day that is comprised of about 10 questions. She gives 4 exams which make up 92% of your grade, so basically if you fail one then you are screwed. She does not round grades, even if you are at a .9. Exam 3 is the hardest. I studied for over 20 hours the week before and still failed it. The final was much easier. I barely studied and got a C+. I really liked genetics before I took her class, now I hate it. If I have to take this class again, there is NO way I am taking it with her... Baylor needs new genetics professors, cause I've heard bad things about the other one too.  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2014-12-16

Comments:Gen - Her tests absolutely DO NOT come straight off the outline. Her tests are the hardest tests i've ever taken!!! I studied a week ahead for every single test and the highest grade i got was an 80 on one. Most were high 60s/ low 70s. This class is very hard with her! She isnt a bad lecturer but the tests are crazy difficult. TAKE ANYONE BUT HER IF YOU WANT AN A. I dont know how anyone got an A in that class!!! The tests were sooooo nit picky!!! DO NOT TAKE  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2014-11-12

Comments:2306 - I thought Moenke was a great professor. Genetics is very hard to learn because there are so many little details and after a while a lot of them tend to run together. However, she was very methodical covering each section, which helped me keep things straight in my head. Some people had trouble finishing her tests in the allotted amount of time, I never had that problem but I tend to be a fast tester. By studying the problems she assigns for homework, you have a fairly good idea of what will be on the tests.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2014-10-25

Comments:Genetics - I really enjoyed her class up until we took our first test. Her test do not show how much you know/learned but rather how good you are at test taking. If you like to read problems carefully and think before you answer, you will fail... However, if you rush through the test and answer all of the problems in time, you will also fail... Also each test covers about 8 very long chapters (which she does a terrible job at helping you learn the material) so you're going to have to read about 100 pages only so you can have a 50:50 shot at passing. Ohhh and none of your grades get dropped/curved.  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2014-10-21

Comments:Genetics - I'm not sure what people are saying when they mention that her tests come straight off her outlines because they really don't. Tests are incredibly time limited and she rushes through her class notes. Don't take her.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2014-07-28

Comments:BIO 2306 - Don't take her. Like many of the reviews below indicate, she rushes through her slides and doesn't explain everything you need to know for exams, even though she claims she does. Tests are incredibly time constrained and many people don't even finish the first test. Avoid to save yourself. Duhrkopf isn't much better. Baylor needs more than just two genetics professors.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2014-07-28

Comments:Genetics - Moehnke knows her material. She goes through a chapter or 2 in one lecture. HW (every week) 3 Test and a Final. Overall test were not hard, i just did not have time to read and memorize the material. The tests are literally the outlines so study those. All tests were multiple choice.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2014-01-07

Comments:2306 - There's not much to like about this class. This class is the reason I decided to not continue a degree in Pre-Med. It will either make or break you. There\'s little homework but attempting to learn the concepts will be a pain. Tests were BRUTAL. You have a limited amount of time to work questions that require time to think out and remember. There are math equations you will have to memorize. Chi-Square will be with you until the end! Did I mention how paranoid they are about cheating? It\'s no surprise. You know a class is hard when the A student struggles. I knew a few students who managed to work a deal out with somebody in Waco and cheat through the class. (of which I will not disclose, either you find out how via connections or you don\'t) Which really says something about how hard it is. I\'ll admit, I even considered taking a loan out to cheat an A out of this class. Tests are based strongly on the chapter questions. Understand the questions and why the answer is correct and why the other choices are not correct. If you understand the why, you will be okay. Moe was an overall nice teacher, but I felt like her concerns were almost fake for students. I don\'t blame her. In a class of 250+ Pre-Med students, she has little to no time to help you learn the material. Sorry, but I\'m not sorry mentality. Her outlines will literally \"outline\" the material you need to learn. It will be entirely up to you to learn the subject as her powerpoint slides really only contribute a \"outline\" of what each section entails. Expect to memorize several genetic vocabulary words and know their function in genetics for each test. My lab TA was dreadful as well. If you miss even one lab don\'t expect an A. TA docks heavily for missing class. Oh, did I mention if you\'re late by 5 minutes you\'re absent as well? Better hope traffic is good or the bus isn\'t late or else you\'re SOL. My advice? Take it at a community college if it\'s offered. Chances are it won\'t be as in depth as Moe\'s class was. This was my first F in my entire college career, but I saw it coming a long time ago. Best of luck, prospective students. You\'re definitely going to need it.  - Grade In Class:F

Comments:1305 - Very fun and interesting teacher. Seems to genuinely care about students. Very friendly but you must stay on her nice side. Tests are not very hard if you look over notes. I would recommend her.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Genetics - Dr. M is not a very good professor. She constantly cancels office hours, does not allow questions during class, simply says "Please refer to your outline.", claims all test material will come from said outline (not true). This class is hard to begin with and she does not make it easy. I have heard she is better than other professors, but be advised there is no room for slacking. Many quizzes throughout the semester, as well as "extra credit" clicker questions. She does not take attendance either. Don't think I would take her again for another course.  - Grade In Class:F

Comments:2306 - Dr. Moehnke was one of the best professors I've had so far. I'm not sure what the other students are talking about but she really knows what she’s doing during her lectures. Yes she used slides but they weren't verbatim from the book. I learned more from the lectures than from reading the book. I did majority of the practice problems she assigned and went to talk to her if I had any questions during her office hours. If you want to meet up with her during other days besides her office hours, just shoot her an email to set up a time, she’ll gladly work with you. Her quizzes were announced beforehand (on the syllabus) and were easy to get an A on , especially if you go to the SI’s because Stephanie has worked with her for a long time and knows what kind of questions Dr. Moehnke likes to put on the quizzes and tests. Her tests are all multiple choice and for the tests, I reviewed each outline and went back to the book if there was a topic that I don't remember well. Her class is not exactly easy but completely do-able if you put in the work.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - Dr M is very nice and she explains things really well. Her tests weren't too hard. I hardly studied for them. I messed up the third test and it completely shot my A (I missed it by .3 pts). You do have to study, but she gives outlines and as long as you know everything about what's on the outline you will do fine. I hardly did practice problems and I did fine, but I would recommend you do them.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2306 - This was one of my least favorite class I've taken at Baylor. First off, genetics is just boring in general. But secondly, Dr. Moenke is a TERRIBLE teacher, one of the worse I've ever had. I'm not saying that because I hate her or anything; she's a nice lady (on the surface), I guess. But her teaching ability is by just plain awful. I would have given her a negative score on this if I could have. You will not learn a single thing from her...except a couple things that aren't on the tests. She just reads off the slides in a way as if everyone has their PhD in genetics. You basically have to learn the material yourself. On top of that, the tests are over the most obscure things, so even if you know the material, she makes sure you don't get a good grade. There are quizzes throughout the semester that are nothing like the tests, so they dont help much other than a tiny grade boost. I would definitely not take this course. The other guy I hear isn't much better, but you get way better grades. Take him. Don't take Moenke.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:2306 - Where to begin. It is clear that Dr. Moehnke does not like this class nor does she think it is worth the time to help students. I'll break each rating down for simplicity. Availability: She's always available. During her office hours. Don't even think about going to see here during non office hours because she will say that she cannot help you due to the fact that it is not within her official office hours. I once walked in and she was doing nothing but messing around on her computer and she said the exact statement above to me. I was floored to say the least. Helpfulness: This ties in with availability. She does not make herself available enough to be helpful. You can talk to her after class but she will answer your questions in the most vague way possible. Teaching Ability: Dr. Moehnke has developed a very unique teaching strategy: she puts slides up on a powerpoint, that are basically verbatim from the book, and reads them off to you. Then she assigns you book problems so that you can teach yourself how to do them. Teachers are supposed to teach, not give you the book and send you on your way. She does give an answer key though. With only the answers and not how to work them out. As an added bonus, she copies many of the questions verbatim and puts them on the test! So if you understand it, great! If not, sucks. Usually whenever a professor spends multiple lectures on a particular topic, one would expect a lot of the test to be on that. With Dr. Moehnke however, that is not the case. She spends days on a certain topic, and then asks maybe 2 or 3 questions on it. For the rest of her questions, they are about nit-picky details that are mentioned only once in her notes and aren't even discussed in class. The only reason I did as well as I did was because of my genetics background. She over complicates most of the topics and confuses you. SI helped a lot because the leader actually explained and spent time going through every topic, making sure we understood them. Overall, I would not recommend taking her. I hear Duhrkopf isn't much better though.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2306 - Plain and simple- genetics is a fun and easy class. If you put in the time to study more than just the night before you will do well on her test. She gives test based off of the material presented in class. Don't just memorize it apply it. I ended with a 99 in this class. It isn't too hard I promise. Plus she is great/sweet/genuine towards students. I am taking her again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:genetics - she is the worst teacher i have ever had. she was not fair at all and she does not care about anyone but herself. I only got an A because i took 12 credits. this class was harder and more time consuming then ochem 1 and 2 combined. Teerrible teacher  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Genetics - She is a great lecturer and a great person, but watch out for those tests. Seriously. If you want to learn--take her, but be ready to sacrifice an A for it. If you want an A, take Durkof--you learn the info and can still get an A. Just saying. It's your future.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:2306 - The first thing that needs to be said about this is that Genetics is not in any way an easy class. You are going to have to work hard for it, but that being said, Dr. Moenke is extremely helpful, and an amazingly engaging lecturer. She does her best to help, and honestly wants her students to do well. I def recommend her as a teacher for this class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - WOW...where do i start? Okay, so Dr. Moehnke is AMAZING at what she does. That should actually be an understatement. This woman seems so young, yet so knowledgeable at what she teaches. That being said, there is A LOT of information to know and to study for. I went to SI every week, which helped save my grade because we went over what would more than likely be on the quizzes. Her tests are VERY detailed, so study, study, study! The short answer problems generally come from the back of the book, although not verbatim. I would not recommend this course if you have a heavy course load. I've heard she is the "easier" professor at Baylor, so I can't imagine what my GPA might have been like with the other Genetics instructor. She does not raise grades at the end of the semester at all, (which she shouldn't) so put forth every effort on every quiz and test in this class! If I could, I would take her again because she is that great of a professor! Loved the class!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2306 - I absolutely LOVED this class! I thought it was so interesting and I did very well. However, I did not have a heavy schedule, so I had time to study. Go to SI--I did well on all my quizzes because of it. And don't just study the powerpoints, actually read the chapters! It's a lot of studying, but you will have to get used to it anyway if you're planning on going to med or dental school. The first test is super easy and all the free response are just problems from the end of the chapter so do the problems dr moehnke assigns you! the second test is the hardest but the third isn't bad either. And then the final.. it's pretty tough. I studied for a straight week and knew all the new stuff but had trouble with the old stuff. But if you have time to study, you will do fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Her outlines were very helpful, and her tests are all based off those outlines. Nothing too tricky on her tests. Bio portal helped lot for the course as well. Just study in detail what's on those outlines and it's a pretty straight forward class  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIO 1302 - Great personality, friendly. Goes over the material very quickly. Had only 4 out of class assingments, which were easy. A few quizs throughout, not too hard. The tests required a lot of out of heavily in-depth material studying, making them difficult. A large portion of the grade was tests. Found the class interesting, but not enough to take it again.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Genetics - The exams were difficult, but Dr. M is really nice! Somehow this sentence has led people to believe this class will be fun, entertaining, or even tolerable. Finishing this class and getting to move on to HFIZZ is the best feeling in the world! Study hard for the quizzes and exams, and you will survive. Better, more interesting, things will come after this class. Don\'t let boring things like wobble effect and dimers prevent you from pursuing the Pre Med track!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIO 2306 - Blah: That's what I thought of when I got my first B ever and sent my 4.0 tumbling into the dust. But it's not the professor's fault. Well...mostly not. My only complaint with Moenke’s grading was the transition from her first to second to third tests... The first was really easy...the second and third suddenly asked nitpicky details that are difficult to remember without careful studying. The migration from general concepts to details threw me off and I dropped from a lackluster 89 to an atrocious 66. I cranked up my studying to make a 77 on the last test but it was too late to get an A...oh well. Moenke offers only one extra credit assignment (which will be kept a secret) and her quizzes are often repeated versions of the questions in the back of the book. That's the key: if you can find the time to work each and every one of those puppies then you should do fine. The problem is you have to buy a solutions manual on top of that straining budget (unless you're rich, in which case ignore what I have to say), and the problems often take extensive amounts of time to work through, understand, and completely digest. Now to Mrs. Moenke. I will be brutally truthful: Her lectures were BORING. I hate powerpoint presentations with darkened lights and comfy chairs that demand you fall asleep. She basically reads over her outline/powerpoint presentations. Occasionally, she offers an interesting idea or funny comment. Very nice person. Always happy. I would recommend taking her if you have 12 credit hours, are majoring in biology, or are just plain genius. Overall, professor: Good. Course: Not so good.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:BIO 2306 - She is a nice teacher, and he can communicate with students well. The class is tough. There is a lot of reading, and you must do practice problems to do well on the quizes and tests. She is a good teacher, and you will walk out of the class having learned genetics.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - She is a great person, but I found it very hard to get anything out of the lectures. SI helped a LOT. Tests were hard, but the quizzes were really easy and helped my grade.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2306 - This class just completely sucks. I can't even put into words how much I hated this class. I was doing just fine in it before the third test and the final. The first and second tests are super easy. The quizzes are all easy as well. I really don't understand why anyone would think Moehnke is a good teacher. She's a nice person, but I learned nothing from her lectures. Also, it is true that if you go talk to her about your grade she doesn't care. Her final was probably one of the most brutal exams I've had since I've been at Baylor. She gives a study guide for it, which couldn't be more vague. It's just a list of very broad topics. She makes tests harder than they need to be because of the way she words questions. And almost every single question on the final had the answer choices 'none of the above', 'all of the above', and 'two of the above are correct.' Avoid Moehnke and this class if at all possible. If you have to take it, study for it allll the time and take it during a semester when you have an easy workload.   - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2306 - Dr. M is very bubbly and happy. She is great lecturer. There are 3 exams, 1 final, and quizzes every Friday. I made 100s on all the quizzes and exams ranged from 88-92. There is an extra quiz that can replace your lowest quiz. Her quizzes are pretty easy. Just study the practice problems. You MUST read the book and do the problems to do well. SI is very helpful and she gives great exam reviews to people that attend regularly. Her exams are very detailed and require a lot of studying. I usually studied several days in advance, sometimes even a week. Her outlines are great and she is specific on what she expects you need to know. This class required A LOT of time and studying. I don't think I have ever studied as much as I did for this class. Hard work pays off and if you do the practice problems, read, go to SI, and STUDY STUDY STUDY you should be fine. I took 16 hours and made all A's so it's definitely doable!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - Genetics itself is not easy stuff...but she is far by the best teacher I have had at Baylor. She presents the material in a really organized way and there is absolutely NOTHING on the test that she has not covered. You have to do the homework for sure though; most of her test and quiz questions are similar to them. But she is incredibly helpful and very clear on what she expects from you in that class. She got me really interested in genetics and she is just an awesome professor all around! Take her!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Genetics - This is the class that i have studied the most for at Baylor. There is a ton of information. We covered all but 2 chapters out of a 600 page book. There are three test worth 20 percent each. We had seven quizes and could drop one. The remaning six quizes added up to 20 percent. The final was 40 old questions and 40 new questions, all multiple choice. This also counted for 20 percent. The test were 20 multiple choice worth 60 points and then a free response section worth 40 points. Working the problems in the book is crucial, most of the free repsonse section are problems very similar to those in the book. The quizes were always free response and short. Usually they would have like one problem and 2 definitions or something like that. This class is difficult, but really for me was a matter of putting in the time. The first two test are good representations of the material, there is just a ton of material to cover. The third test is real detailed. The new portion of the final wasn't bad, but the old stuff was reall hard and even tricky. She is good at explaining, but the class moves very fast. Sometimes we would cover a chapter a day. She does narrow down some chapters, so pay attention to the lecture outlines. She is nice and was always helpful in her office. I am personally glad that i choose her over Durkoph, or however you spell his name. She also helps teach the 2106 lab which isn't bad at all. She definetly isn't easy, but people in lab said the averages in Durkophs were in the 60s while ours where in the 70s(I think he may curve some at the end).   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - SHE IS HORRIBLE! avoid her if you can. I studied for a week for the third test and I made a 53. Really how is that ecen possible. She does not care if you learn the material or not. She sets out to make you fail. Even if you work hard and do the homework problems she wants you to know everything in detail. Six chapters in detai. Just do not take her.   - Grade In Class:D

Comments:2306 - Dr. Moenke is a hard professor. Do not skip class! Filling out the lecture outlines help out a lot. Her exams are packed with information to know, so staying on top of the reading and work-out problems are essential if you want a good grade in her class. There is no homework but there are quizzes. The quiz average is counted like another exam.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306-genetics - Take this class if it's your only class for the semester :) The tests are horrible....too much information to possibly take in for one test and most of the information you learn you aren't even tested over. There are 2 or 3 questions per 40 page chapter on the tests and her office hours are when its convenient for her....if she doesnt want to be there she'll simply email her students "office hours cancelled today"......wow.....isn't that what teachers get paid for? Take someone else.....Ive had several friends who all had to retake it because they made the mistake of taking it with her and I barely made it through.....good luck!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:bio 1 - took her and rushing at the same time. she was actually the easiest out of the two. I felt like she dumbed down a lot of the material, which didn't help me at all. but, her tests were a true reflection of what we did in class. you have to apply yourself, but that's college! I'm sure she's a different story in the upper level courses, but this class wasn't too bad. you got out what you put into it.   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:genetics - She seems to be a very nice lady and i enjoyed her lectures. She is very excited about the topics which made it very easy to stay interested during lecture. HOWEVER her tests were very difficult. I would study, and do the problems in the book, but the multiple choice questions felt like they had nothing to do with what she talked about or what i studied. It was horrible. The actual questions where you worked problems were very easy though but that is only 1/2 of the points of the test. Take someone else if you can.   - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2306/2106 - She isn't bad if you take great notes and do the practice problems in the back of the chapters. If you don't the practice problems, you probably won't get an A. Do the problems in a group; thats what helped me alot. She is one of the better lecturers for the course, so I'd recommend her.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - AVOID GENETICS IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. Even if you are a serious premed student who is gonna be a doctor not just somebody who's gonna get weeded out. That said, if you have to take it, she is probably the only option. But it is not good.It is bad. Really bad. And do not expect the same letter grade as you got in bio 1 and 2 no matter how smart you are. Some people do get A's, but there are some very smart people who do not. She was not there the whole semester bc she had a baby prematurely, but we had Durkhoff, and sometimes he didn't even come. He taught very differently than her, and she didn't care. She kept grading the tests without caring that he told us in class that she was wrong about everything. Lisa the SI girl is amazing. The only way to get thru this class. But she is graduating. Durkhoff is rude to students, and moehnke was not there except apparently at 10 o clock at night in the bsb??? Lab is pretty easy. Moehnke's tests are awful - not multiple choice, and the second one is especially terrible. This is one of the worst premed classes at baylor, seriously. Do the practice problems in the back of the book. Apparently those are super important, but nobody told us that. Also, if you can find the old powerpoints she used to give out, try. She quit putting them online for us i guess just to make it more difficult. Our class really got an awful set of circumstances. So if she mentions babies/pregnancy in class, immediately drop it. I am serious. I wish i had dropped the class. I do feel sorry for her, but she made us suffer, too.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - Dr. Dr.Moehnke is incredibly young and smart for her age. She knows the genetics material inside and out and can explain them in a clear and concise manner. The only problem I had about the class was her weekly quizzes, which most could easily be conquered by doing the problems in the solutions manual. Her test was very general and did not cover everything she lectured about, very poor representation that you end you studying extraneous material not on her test. She also does not post all her powerpoints online which made it even more difficult to keep up with. I took her class at the worse possible semester: 5 science classes --> 18 hours and was in a time consuming coed fraternity. I eventually ended up dropping her class 1/3 way through her class. Overall I recommend her if you have a light semester and time to dedicate yourself. But don't expect her class to be a walk in the park. ~ T's review.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:2306 - Do not take Dr.Moehnke. If you have any problems with the class don't bother talking to her. It'll be a waste of your time. She especially doesn't care to talk to you if you are failing the class.Take another professor if possible!!!!  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:2306 - Her class is very interesting. There is a lot of information in this course. Main suggestion: do NOT start studying the day before the test. You WILL fail. Comments:Gen - This lady is such a witch. She takes off a ridiculous amount of points on the work-it-out problems. I would miss a tiny portion of the answer and she took off 7-8 out of 10 points, which realllllyy brings down your test average. Comments:Genetics - We are really getting screwed this semester, Dr. M had her baby and we are getting lectured by Dr. Durkoff... A bit harder to study for a test when one person is lecturing and one person is giving the test, and no more powerpoints... I had to pretty much teach myself this semester on genetics... well other than the first test. She's a fantastic lecturer though through the first test and I hope she curves at the end of the semester, our class could really use it!   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:genetics - Who knew three letters at the end of her name would make her so arrogant? tests do not reflect content... predictablilty of tests as well as quizzes is near impossible. she is NOT ever willing to help and usually dodges questions with "you can find the answer in the book" and made the class harder than it had to be with her exams. very regimented in her ways and doesn't want to hear any thing else other than her own voice. she must have been good back in the day when she first started.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2306 - Dr. Moehnke is a really great lecturer - she is very enthusiastic and tries her best to clearly explain difficult concepts. She is available for office hours everyday and has been very helpful everytime i have gone. Your grade consists of quizzes and tests - the quizzes are usually very easy if you study and can really help boost your grade (20% quizzes and 20% for each test/final) - tests are multiple choice with a few short answer - definitely work her suggested problems... another word of advice - start studying in advance for the tests... it takes awhile to drill some of the information in - overall a great class  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIO 1306 - I was in the team taught class with Moehnke and Doyle and I loved her section of the course. She is very good at explaining things and her notes are always organized. Comments:1306 - Dr. Moehnke is awesome! She is very fun and a teaches very clearly. Her lectures are outlined in a powerpoint which has holes for you to fill in the blanks so if you are absent you can still get the information you will just have to use your textbook. She seems to know that this is just an intro class and that she doesnt need to go all the way in depth. Her exam on genetics was very fair and the problems were all pretty simple. Dr. Doyle also teaches part of this class and he is really good as well. Take them!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2306 - Moenke is a really energetic lecturer and I honestly do like her as a person but I had a hard time learning from her. The powerpoint lectures have holes in them so that you have to fill them in while she is lecturing and it is distracting to me. She gives weekly quizzes that range from ridiculously easy to completely impossible. Tests are difficult but manageable if you take the time to read the chapters and study every night. Comprehensive final was insane. I retook this semester with Dr. Nam and he is great. I have an A in his class, definetely recommend him over her.   - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1306 - in the team-taught class, moehnke handles the genetics section. she is very intelligent, but the tests are difficult. print out the lecture outlines before class and it will help you. MAKE SURE YOU STUDY because you won't do well if you try to blow it off. come on people, it's bio 2. you have to put forth some effort. marcie is really nice and explains things well. take her if you can.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2306 - There are slides you must print out and during lectures you gotta fill in the missing words/sentences (it's her way of making sure you pay attention). There are weekly quizzes over the material you have learned since the last quiz. All you have to do is study the lecture notes and practice the problems she gives from the book, as some of them are taken from the book. These quizzes are fill in the blank, calculations, or short answer. Her tests are multiple choice, with a couple short answer or calculation problems. It's not difficult material -- she makes sure you understand it. As long as you go over the practice problems from the book then you will do well on the short answer/calculation section. Study the lecture notes for the multiple choice -- some of the mc are also calculations. She's a nice lady that will explain things clearly, so it won't be a challenge.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1306/2306 - she's a good lecturer. don't bother reading the book for 2306. LISTEN IN CLASS. 8:00 bio 2 was a killer. she's quite the b---- when you ask her questions about things she covered in class and you didn't understand. did work hard to get the grade though.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-02-02

Comments:2306 - Probably one of the easiest biology classes available. Dr. Moehnke uses all of her test and quiz questions from the slides or directly from the assigned homework problems. If you study early by going over the notes and do the homework problems a few times, you'll get an A every time. She is really straightforward and nice.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIO 2306 - I think Dr. Moehnke is pretty overrated. I'm usually an A student in bio classes, but not in this one! She had me confused about concepts I'd understood in bio 1306. The most difficult thing about her class for me was predicting what she would quiz/test us over: oftentimes, it was what was covered quickly in the last few minutes of class. The quizzes were all short answer and pretty difficult, I thought. She also didn't offer partial credit on the test's short answer questions, which wasn't so good for my grades. I'm taking a diff prof for my second time through this class.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:Genetics - Dr. Moehnke is a good teacher, don't get me wrong... She is probably one of the best lecturers I've had at Baylor moving at a good pace, explaining most things... However her test questions were chosen with good topics in mind, but a poor way to ask the question... You'll see when you take her, you're only alternative is Hartberg and he blows... Take her because she's hot and smart, but don't expect an automatic A or a curve of any kind... Expect hard tests, weekly quizzes, and make sure you REALLY understand the stuff b/c if you don't, you'll end up with a C like me...  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Genetics - She is a pretty good professor, fairly young and new to teaching I think. The class is pretty easy, actually sort of a blow off type class to me, but a lot of my friends says its really hard. My advice is to just study for the quizzes, and by the time exams roll around, it will all just be review. Her teaching ability is average at best. The tests are not hard at all, I felt the questions asked were a little too simple sometimes. Overall, take this course if you want to learn (some, but not too terribly much) and want a good grade in genetics. She is pretty hot too.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2006-12-15

Comments:2306 - For starters, she is not kidding when she says that she won't curve. Each test covers about eight chapters, but she gives out power points with blanks. Make sure that you do the homework, it really does help your grade. She's very nice, but try not to take an 8am class. There are daily quizzes that will kick your butt if you don't study. Make sure that you know the material backwards and forwards to make an A.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1306 - i liked this lady. her tests are straight from notes and lecture. but dont depend on just the notes, you have to attend class to understand them. she team taught it with doyle and handled the genetics portion of 1306 and i think she did a very good job. im trying to get her again for genetics. maybe that kid that spent 20 hours in the library shouldve figured out that she doesnt make her tests from the textbook. she wont test you over anything she hasnt mentioned in class. but study the printable slideshow notes out and making a good grade can come relatively easy. i definitely recommend her.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2306 - Professor Moehnke is great at teaching; Genetics is a hard subject but she explains things so clearly you can't help understanding it. DON'T MISS THE LECTURES because you will be lost. The few absences I had I tried reading the book to catch up and didn't understand it. She is very nice and helpful but she has quizzes every Friday which is annoying but they are not too hard if you study her powerpoints (which she posts online) and do the problems in the back of the book. The tests are quite difficult so make sure you study a lot for them but if you have been studying for the quizzes it helps a lot (which is probably why she even gives them). I recommend Professor Moehnke if you want to actually understand Genetics.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1306 - Say your prayers now freshmen and pre-med hopefuls. Your life is about to be consumed by a non-stop Biology Assignment. I spent 20+hours every week in the library memorizing the text book and made 50-70 at max on tests. She will push your sanity to it's limits, if you have any....  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Genetics - Mrs. Moehnke was awesome! Fun class, but Exams were tough. Keep up with the practice problems because she likes to re-use them on the exams. Weekly quizzes that make up a good part of your final grade, that should help your grade. Definitely a down-to-earth prof, who'll help you out!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2306 - She was a good lecturer, very interesting in class, not monotonous like lots of other Bio teachers. She was available all the time and sooo nice. She wrote me a letter of recommendation after one meeting, since she just graduated she especially knows what we're going through so she's more than happy to help. She doesn't drop any grades, so that kind of sucks, just keep up with your quizzes and that'll help a lot. I would definitely recommend taking her - especially over Hartburg!  - Grade In Class:B+
